The Exchange Zone

,

In the last few weeks, I’ve been reminded again how important the ministry of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes really is. Caz McCaslin, FCA’s VP of Sports, once said, “There’s a race to the heart of our youth, and the first one there wins.” That quote hit me recently as I thought about the exchange zone in a relay race. It’s that small section of the track where one runner passes the baton to the next. In the 4x100 relay, that handoff happens in just 2.2 seconds. The key to success isn’t just how fast the runners are—it’s how well the baton is passed in that zone. As parents, coaches, and mentors, we each have our own exchange zone. We’re not passing a baton—we’re passing our faith and beliefs. I often think, I wish God gave us an instruction book for this. And then I remember… He did.

“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds... Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” — Deuteronomy 11:18–20

Our exchange zone may last longer than a few seconds, but compared to eternity, it’s still short. Each of us has a limited window to invest in the next generation—to pass on what matters most. That’s why FCA’s ministry across Southeast Kansas matters so deeply. A study by the National Association of Evangelicals found that 97% of people who put their faith in Christ do so before the age of 30—most between ages 4-14. That’s our exchange zone. And through FCA, we’re stepping into that zone—reaching hearts for Christ while there’s still time.

Donor Spotlight:

Ron Marrone, Pittsburg, KS

This month, we’re honored to highlight Ron Marrone, a faithful friend and supporter of SEK FCA, whose heart for ministry continues to make a lasting impact. When asked what drives him to support FCA, Ron shared:
“It’s a great ministry. We’re helping to build God’s Kingdom all the time. It’s great for our youth at all levels in athletics—even if you’re not in athletics. It’s a great fellowship to stay focused on a Christ-like life.”

Ron believes in FCA because he’s seen how God uses it to transform lives—from coaches and athletes to parents and communities. His investment helps ensure that every huddle, every camp, and every conversation points people toward Christ.

“I’ve gotten much closer to God because of FCA,” Ron said. “Everyone has their trials and tribulations, and the fellowship here helps you stay grounded and focused on living for Christ.”

We’re deeply grateful for partners like Ron, who understand that when we invest in coaches and athletes, we’re investing in eternity.

The baton is in our hands right now. Whether you’re a coach, parent, athlete, or supporter—you have an exchange zone. Together, through FCA, we’re running this race to reach the next generation for Jesus Christ. But the race isn’t finished. We need more teammates—people willing to pray, serve, and give so that every coach and every athlete in Southeast Kansas has the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. Will you join us in the exchange zone? Your partnership can help change the eternal direction of a young person’s life. “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forevermore.”
2 Peter 3:18

Many people do year-end giving, both for tax purposes or for seasonal needs. If you're
considering any year-end giving, we'd love it if you considered giving an additional (or first time!) donation to our work! It would help us recover some ministry transition expenses and help us to be fully-funded and focused as we start next year.To make your donation, simply use the Join my HomeTeam button above, or feel free to contact me directly for assistance.
We are incredibly grateful for your partnership in the ministry of Southeast SEK FCA. Your generosity has been instrumental in helping us touch the lives of countless student athletes and foster a strong community of faith on campus.
In Christ,
